Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary, Khammam



Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Khammam district, Telangana state of India.The wildlife sanctuary is spread over an area of 635.40 km2 (157,010 acres) with the picturesque Kinnerasani Lake with densely forested islands in the middle of the sanctuary.It is 15 km (9.3 mi) from Kothagudem and 25 km (16 mi) from Bhadrachalam.

Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the right side of Godavari River and also it is a part of Dandakarunya Forest.  It is about 12 km from Paloncha, Khammamm, Telangana. It is covered area of 635.4sqkm. The name Kinnerasani has come to this Sanctuary is, this river flows from this forest and drains in to River Godavari.

Particulars of Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary:

It has mixed type trees like Maddi, Tendu, Sommi Thandra, Mango, Yegissa, Amla, Yepi, and Bandaru.  It has dam, Reservoir, Jaladrushyam Guest House and Deer Park.The sanctuary represents dry deciduous mixed type forests with teak, bamboo and terminals. Other species found here are Maddi, Yepi, Yegissa, Sommi Thandra, Bandaru, Amla, Mango, Tendu. Main attractions of the sanctuary are the Deer Park, Kinnerasani Dam and Reservoir with Jaladrushyam Guest house. Many perennial springs known as "Togus" flow through this sanctuary along with Kinnerasani Rallavagu.

Flora and fauna

Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary has huge number of animals and some are like Sambhar, Gaurs (Indian Boar), Sloth Bear, Tigers, Black Bucks, Hyena, Chousinghas, Wild Dogs, Panthers, Cheetals, Wild Boars, and Jackals and many birds like Jungle Fowl, Doves, Spoonbills, Partrigde, Nuktas, Ducks, Teals and Open bill storks (comes near the Kinnersani Lake to graze and nest).Even you can reptiles like Vipers, Cobra, Python and Kraits are also found. Here another interesting and attraction of kinnerasani is holiday home that is made up of glass, Environmental educational centre and Eco Park.

There is a Forest rest House provided by the Telangana Tourism Board at Kothagudem and Paloncha.
